{May 31, 2013}   ~* No Shame *~
No Shame

A poem I wrote and a photo of myself that I edited in Photoshop.

After coming home from the hospital this morning I took a nap for a few hours. My day actually began around 12:30pm. Here’s how it’s gone:

I went outside to drink my coffee and have a smoke and I met a new friend. From the looks of his plump belly he'd had a hearty breakfast. I had to pick him up and take him away from the property before my Mother had a heart attack. He was a big boy, about 18" long. Gigantic for this part of the woods.

When I went in for my shower Ken and his ladies greeted my from the edge of the tub. Looks like he had a good night. Sorry Ken, you have to go. You’re not my type 😉

Then while at the playground my niece climbs atop the fire engine and states that she "wants to ride in big firetrucks when I get big like you Auntie". Awww!

This evening as I tried my dress on for one last time before the wedding to make sure I didn’t have to do any touch-ups my niece came waltzing into my room. Her jaw dropped to the floor and she said, “Auntie! You don’t wear dresses!”. Haha. She was only a year old when I last wore a dress at my graduation. She then went on to inform me that I can’t wear my camo hat and my work boots with the dress ’cause “it just doesn’t work”. God love her!

On the drive home from the hospital this morning we drove by a little-known nudist colony and attached to their sign was a gay pride flag. It’s the only gay pride flag on display in this little valley and it made me really happy to see it. I fully expect that someone will remove it or deface it soon but the fact that it is there is a good sign. I was not surprised that the nudists were the first to put one of these flags out because (around here at least) they’re more of a minority than us homosexuals.
I’m hopeful, though not optimistic, that more flags in support of homosexuality will start popping up.
I’ve heard people say that there needs to be more tolerance for homosexuality… I disagree. You can “tolerate” a drunk in the bar. We don’t need tolerance, we need support and once we gain the support we deserve, we need equality. We deserve equality. Just like John and Jane, who have been married for X number of years and have a little boy, a little girl and a perfect little puppy, we pay taxes, we work hard to support our families and we deserve to live “live the American dream”.
Okay, rant over.

{May 30, 2013}   A Room With a View

image

My friend’s surgery went well. We’re now in a private room with a great view (see photo)!
Well at least her nurse is attractive. I almost wish I was the patient.
Since the surgery went so well the surgeon said we may be able to go home tonight. I sure hope so because these city “views” just are not cutting it. I want to go home to the woods. And this recliner/bed thingy they have for me to sleep on isn’t doing my body any favors. I guess I will just be glad I’m not the one stuck in the bed.

{May 28, 2013}   My Girl

I’m humming The Temptations song now.
I think it’s sweet that Babe always curls up with the clothes I wore all day. It must be because they smell like me. Kind of like when I was little and I’d wear my Dad’s t-shirts as night shirts because they “smelled like Daddy”.

Babe curled up on my jeans, sleeping soundly.

My only complaint today is that I’m going on 34 hours without sleep. The pain makes any attempt at restful sleep impossible. I’m so exhausted I’ve been sick to my stomach.

The next four days are going to be very busy and long. Tomorrow I have a meeting at the Fire Station, then physical therapy followed by a visit to the pain clinic.  Then I have to get up at 04:30 Thursday morning to take my best friend for surgery, where I will stay the night with her and bring her home Friday afternoon. Then Saturday is the big day- my brother is getting married!

It will be a miracle if I don’t have a meltdown before it’s all over. It doesn’t take much to overwhelm me.

{May 28, 2013}   Obsession

I have a new sickness… an obsession…
I found a piano/keyboard game (okay, two) for my tablet and I can’t stop playing! It’s almost four in the morning and I’ve been playing it since about midnight. It’s worse than my Words With Friends or BINGO addiction!
I suppose there are much worse things that I could be doing. I think everyone should give this piano/keyboard game a try!

Thanks to late-night commercials my MP3 player is getting full. I heard this on a Trojan commercial the other night and fell in love with it. I’m a HUGE Elvis Presley fan and I usually feel sick to my stomach when someone tries to cover one of his songs, but this was so creative and… I just love it!

{May 27, 2013}   My Friends Live in my TV

I’ve never been a big television viewer. However, I’ve gotten into a few. Thank God for DVR and on-demand. I remember the days when you had to plan your life around General Hospital’s schedule. Here are my favorite, must watch shows:

The reason I love this show is rather obvious...

I’m a little bit saddened by the season finale this week. The show won’t be back until the fall 😦

Also obvious why I love this show...

I know that the show is over, but I still watch the episodes over and over again. I found a rumor online that they’re making a movie for The L Word. I wonder if it’s true? I hope so!

Medical drama's, some of the best TV ever.

Another show that has stressed me out because the season finale just aired last week.

More medical drama.

More medical drama.

It’s not just a medical drama like ER. It carries lessons and gives a peek into the political aspect of being a hospital doctor.

Women in uniform... kicking ass... need I say more?

Police Women of Dallas, Cincinnati, Memphis, Orange County… you name it I love it.

I love cop shows. If I weren't a firefighter/EMT I'd be a police officer.

Like the original Cops, only faster chases, crazier drugs and better video quality. And who doesn’t love Inner Circle’s Bad Boys?

Chelsea Handler is both my idol and my fantasy. An outspoken, down-to-earth woman. I never miss an episode of Chelsea Lately!

I actually had a dream the night before last that I flew out to California to stay at Chelsea Handler’s house. It was a totally innocent dream. There were several people out on a deck and we were seated at a big table having a nice cookout. It was a good dream. My dreams usually revolve around my job and are more like nightmares about bad car accidents and seriously psychotic people going off the handle.

My friends live in my TV. Sadly, the drama in these shows sometimes becomes very real and I find myself worrying about the characters while I’m dealing with reality. Don’t worry, though, ’cause I’m not crazy I’m just not-OK-in-the-head!

{May 26, 2013}   Snow on May 25th? Yep!

Welcome to New England. Right now we’re experiencing a bit of a wintry mix out there. We’re approaching our 8th straight day of rain.
There are some exciting events coming up. On Saturday, June first, my brother is getting married! Then I’m leaving for Boston June 7th-10th for a mini vacation with one of my best friends. It’s going to be a great, relaxing time and I’m really looking forward to it.
On the less sunny side of things… I’ve been working my ass off at the Fire Department, I take my best friend for surgery on Thursday, the State has sent me a letter asking me to obtain custody of my 17 year old nephew whom I haven’t seen since he was 3 and my back is killing me.
Chin up! Things can always be worse, right?

Coyotes, Fisher Cats and (yes) Beavers. Which is why this crazy cat lady in-practice only allows her kitty outside on a harness and leash. She’s grown quite accustomed to it. For the almost four years she’s owned me she’s been an indoor cat only, and the previous three years she was a shelter cat. This Summer, Babe has shown interest in going outside and she’s even escaped a few times, so I bought her a soft, mesh harness and we’ve been going for little adventures, morning, day and night. However, this evening the rain is pounding down and she’s quite unhappy with me for not taking her out. She’s spent the last couple of hours “hiding” from me, no doubt publishing me for being so cruel. She’s never far from my side, so this is her version of hiding:
