{May 21, 2013}   Lazy, Hazy Summer Days

Little man and myself are both ready and looking forward to the sun-shining days of summer. The different types of flowers, the smell of fresh cut grass, strawberry daquiris and kayaking. Bring it on!

{May 20, 2013}   Summer is Here!

Summer is Here!

Stepping out my front door, the scent of Lilacs fills the air. What a gorgeous time of year!

{May 11, 2013}   The Skies Opened Up

The sky yesterday, just before Mother Nature watered our gardens.

It’s been three long weeks without any rain. The flowers that had blossomed prematurely were wilting. The roads were so dusty that you couldn’t see where you were going if there was another vehicle in front of you. The trees that should have been turning green and filling out looked like severely malnourished children. A lot of wells went dry and we had a lot of brush fires to fight.

We finally got some rain yesterday and last night, accompanied by a few rumbles of thunder. The temperatures went from the high 70’s and low 80’s to the low-to-mid 60’s in no time at all. Like magic, the leaves burst into green overnight. The flowers perked up. The dirt roads suffered a small amount of washout, but they’re no longer part of a dust bowl. Most importantly the fire danger levels have dropped.

I can’t imagine what it’s like for the farmers out west who suffer through months and months with no significant rainfall. They’re much stronger than I could ever be. God bless them.
