{February 16, 2014}   Exes and Ohs

I just discovered the lesbian drama series Exes and Ohs. I’m not sure how I feel about it… maybe like it’s a cheap follow-up, wannabe The L Word? Has anyone else seen this? I just got HULU so obviously my first mission was to check out the Lesbian and Gay genres.

{May 27, 2013}   My Friends Live in my TV

I’ve never been a big television viewer. However, I’ve gotten into a few. Thank God for DVR and on-demand. I remember the days when you had to plan your life around General Hospital’s schedule. Here are my favorite, must watch shows:

The reason I love this show is rather obvious...

I’m a little bit saddened by the season finale this week. The show won’t be back until the fall 😦

Also obvious why I love this show...

I know that the show is over, but I still watch the episodes over and over again. I found a rumor online that they’re making a movie for The L Word. I wonder if it’s true? I hope so!

Medical drama's, some of the best TV ever.

Another show that has stressed me out because the season finale just aired last week.

More medical drama.

More medical drama.

It’s not just a medical drama like ER. It carries lessons and gives a peek into the political aspect of being a hospital doctor.

Women in uniform... kicking ass... need I say more?

Police Women of Dallas, Cincinnati, Memphis, Orange County… you name it I love it.

I love cop shows. If I weren't a firefighter/EMT I'd be a police officer.

Like the original Cops, only faster chases, crazier drugs and better video quality. And who doesn’t love Inner Circle’s Bad Boys?

Chelsea Handler is both my idol and my fantasy. An outspoken, down-to-earth woman. I never miss an episode of Chelsea Lately!

I actually had a dream the night before last that I flew out to California to stay at Chelsea Handler’s house. It was a totally innocent dream. There were several people out on a deck and we were seated at a big table having a nice cookout. It was a good dream. My dreams usually revolve around my job and are more like nightmares about bad car accidents and seriously psychotic people going off the handle.

My friends live in my TV. Sadly, the drama in these shows sometimes becomes very real and I find myself worrying about the characters while I’m dealing with reality. Don’t worry, though, ’cause I’m not crazy I’m just not-OK-in-the-head!

{March 21, 2013}   Reminiscing

Man, remember when?

The Dinosaurs

I used to watch endless reruns of Lambchop at my Grandparents house during the day and then endless reruns of The Dinosaurs when I’d go home at night. I had the coolest Dinosaurs coloring book. I never colored in it because I was afraid if I did I would really want to color it at a later date. I don’t know what ever happened to that book. “Not the Momma!”

Barney' s Christmas Movie

And what mid didn’t fall in love with Barney?! I remember having all of the Barney movies. I had a Barney blanket for my bed, a Barney stuffed animal that sang that “I love you, you love me…” song, a 25 piece puzzle of Barney and Bee-Bop, a pop-up punching bag with Barney on it (I get the joke now, Mom and Dad, haha) and I even got to see Barney and Bee-Bop on an RV trip my parents took my brother and I on. Keep in mind, I fell obsessively in love with the original Barney- more of a plum color than a bright purple.

I’m not really sure why I’m reminiscing about my favorite childhood television shows right now. Maybe because it seems like kid’s shows have really taken a nose-dive. I wasn’t allowed to watch The Simpson’s until I was thirteen, now my six year old niece can almost quote King Of The Hill.

I’d like to see some of the old shows come back. I could totally tuck into a Wonder Years marathon right now!

{January 21, 2013}   Today, It’s Okay

With my sister safely in our Emergency Room until a bed opens up at the State Hospital for her, I can now concentrate on my happiness about going to get my new car today. 🙂 The only difficult part is convincing my niece to go because I have her until my sister is better. My niece hates to ride in a car and would be much happier to stay here alone but she’s only six years old. She’s always telling me, “I’ll stay here and Sarge (my dog) can watch me”. Haha. I trust Sarge 100% because he’s a 128 pound, loyal German Shepard, it’s her I don’t trust!

So I’m leaving here in about an hour and I’m literally trembling from excitement! Honestly I’m almost in denial, like it’s a dream and not real. I’ve always driven trucks and SUVs, for one thing, so a car is kind of foreign to me (technically it’s a crossover), and they’ve always been cheap buys (aka pieces of shit that will last me from one inspection to another, barely). This car is nice. Really nice.

With my excitement I had a very hard time falling asleep last night and I kept turning my pillow for the cool side. That sent my mind on a rant, one I’ll call The Simple Things. The simple things that mean so much: The cool side of the pillow, whether it’s eighty degrees or sixty degrees in my room, I want the cool side of the pillow! A drinking glass, I can’t stand to drink from plastic! Every time I see my Auntie I get two bear hugs (at the least), one when I arrive and one when I leave. A TV in my room where I can watch my favorite shows, like NY-ER and The L Word, without being harassed about how “gross” they are. My animals for their unconditional love, when I’m happy, sad, angry or indifferent, they’re always there and they’re always happy to see me and be with me.

I tried to think of something ‘simple’ that had to do with my job at Fire/Rescue but I couldn’t. Because nothing is ever simple when I’m working. But that’s how I like it to be at that one place.

{January 10, 2013}   A Little Bit Obsessed

The L Word

I bought myself a DVR box today so that when the rare episode of The L Word airs I can record it (it usually airs in the wee hours of the morning). I’m also putting this DVR box in my bedroom so I can watch some of my favorite shows, like American Horror Story and Chelsea Lately, even when the kids are here (such shows are totally inappropriate for anyone under the age of sixteen to watch).

Now I will probably spend the next three days doing something I never do: watching TV. But that’s okay because even though my fever is gone (yay!) I still feel like poo. And today is day seven of this awful, debilitating headache. Now is a good time to start watching all those good shows. I made dinner early, the kids’ favorite: home made baked macaroni and cheese with tomato bits and crushed-cracker topping.

{November 6, 2012}   When the Victim Wins

What a night! I got a page for a domestic violence, stage and wait for police to clear the scene, etc. We finally went on scene to find a young female (not sure of age, my partner tended to her) with an obviously broken nose covered in blood. While my partner tended to this patient I assisted the police with their suspect who had been attacked by a pit bull when he assaulted his girlfriend. The guy was a mess. The dog didn’t bite him but he ended up tearing him up with his claws pretty good. I did my assessment, asked if he’d like to go to the hospital and he refused transport (he was drunk as hell). So I cleaned him up per the police Chief’s request (“don’t want blood in my cruiser”) and sent him on his way to jail. The female victim also refused transport opting to drive herself instead and my partner and I gave the dog a biscuit. It’s a shame that she had to suffer a punch and a broken nose, but she’s lucky she has such a loyal and protecting dog. It could have been much worse for her, but it was definitely him who got the worst of it all. As far as I’m concerned, the victim won this time!

Once I cleared the station I returned home to find a suspicious vehicle sitting at the end of my driveway. There was a man in the driver’s seat, it was running but the lights were off. I gave him ten minutes to leave in case he was pulled over to text or something. When he didn’t leave and instead got out of the truck and just disappeared from sight, I grabbed my gun and the phone. I called the officer I had just been with at the last call and gave him the license plate number and description of the vehicle. The officer was here in less than thirty seconds. I’m not exaggerating. While we were talking about the subject the vehicle was registered to, the guy hopped into the truck and tore off in a hurry. The cop caught up to him and gave him the third degree but ultimately had to let him go because there was nothing to get him on. Fortunately for me, I now have a good reputation in this town and the police officer will be driving by several times throughout the night.

It’s been a very stressful day and the night wasn’t much better. Now I’m going to load up on some Aspirin, smother on some Voltaren Gel, lay on my heating pad and watch some Chelsea Lately.
